The Best Hotel Restaurants in Athens
Long day out and about? There is relief in knowing that after a delightful dinner, your comfortable bed is just a couple of floors away. As an added bonus, most of the following hotel restaurants offer spectacular views, although in all cases the wow factor stems from the tasteful dishes and impeccable presentation of Greek and international cuisine.
AthensWas Hotel
Why it made the list
The menu at the rooftop Sense Fine Dining restaurant might be small, but the execution of the complex and beautiful-looking dishes is impeccable. In fact, some eclectic mains look like Miro paintings, and the tastes are sumptuous. Servings are minimalist, as in most haute cuisine restaurants, with high end ingredients. The Parthenon is at arms’ length from some of the tables and booking is necessary especially for the terrace tables with perfect views. Closed on Mondays. Open for casual lunch only on Sundays.
Wyndham Grand Hotel
Why it made the list
Wyndham’s standout restaurant is aptly named Above to reflect its location on the 9th floor of the hotel, next to the decked pool area with the scenic views. You can try the Mediterranean tapas and mains and later have a cocktail at the bar. Ask for the daytime menu if you come earlier in the day. A late evening reservation will make you appreciate even better just how beautifully lit and atmospheric this bar restaurant is.
Athens Hilton
Why it made the list
A few years ago Milos restaurant landed on the Hilton’s ground floor straight from Manhatttan, where chef Costas Spiliadis started the acclaimed restaurant chain specializing in Mediterranean cuisine. At Milos, you will choose to have fish, accompanied by specially selected Greek wine. You are in seafood mecca, after all, so do try the excellent raw seafood bar, the lobster or the daily catch from the sea.
Hotel Grande Bretagne
Why it made the list
You are in one of Athens’s best hotels (if not the best) and the quality of the rooftop restaurant experience reflects this (probably the prices as well). The stunning Acropolis views are ever present at the GB Roof Garden, and it is worth booking earlier than usual to enjoy the unforgettable sunset hues. The chef here is a fan of the slow cooking method, to bring out all the flavors of his fine raw materials. Attire is smart casual, so no flip flops or shorts.
