Not surprisingly, Varadero is well supplied with souvenir shops and arts-and-crafts goods. Along the main street in town, there are outdoor markets set up every couple of blocks where you can search for something different among the standard souvenirs that are also sold at almost every hotel gift shop. A new, upscale shopping center is being built at the far end of the peninsula, the Centro Comercial Las Morlas, part of the huge, Gaviota Marina complex. It should be fully operational by 2016 and offer a wider selection of upscale souvenir shops and art galleries.

Like all book stores in Cuba, the stock here is strong in the usual sociopolitical tracts approved by the regime, but this shop also has a good collection of paperbacks in English.
